To understand all the details of how to play craps, you have to learn the different bets. But for now, just know that you’ll need to place your chips on the table in a specific spot that indicates the different bets.

Also, you need to know which bets you can make at different times because some are only available in some situations and depending on what has already happened at the table.

This is the basic structure for a round of craps:

It is played with two dice in a circle, clockwise, with a maximum of 20 players at one table.

After all bets have been placed, the first roll for the round follows. It is called “come out roll”. The player rolls the dice on the table, and the sum of those two dice will determine what happens next.
If a 7 or 11 is rolled, it is a winning exit roll and the round ends. Then the next roll will also be out, with the same player rolling the dice again. If a combination of 2, 3 or 12 is obtained, then the round also ends. But this is usually considered a negative result, at least for the players who bet on it because they will also lose their turn when this happens.
Any other result means the round continues and the “off” chip will be replaced by an “on” chip to indicate that a second phase called a “Point” has been set.
The number that was produced in the previous “coming out” phase now becomes the target of this next phase, or simply the “point”. At this point, the player will try to roll that number again before rolling a 7.
The “shooter” continues to roll the dice until they get either the number that is already the point or the number 7. If they manage to make “their point” by rolling that number before rolling a 7, they get the chance to be the “shooter” ” again and start again from the first phase “exit”.
But if they roll a 7 before hitting the number from the dot, they give the dice to the next shooter for the next roll.
Note that the round will continue and the “on” chip remains in place until a point is rolled or 7.
When the point number is hit, we go back to step 1 to start the same process again.

How to Play Craps in an Online Casino

Pass Bet

If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 on the exit roll, pass bets win. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, pass bets lose.

Any other roll leads to phase 2 – setting a point. If the player then rolls the point on each subsequent roll before rolling a 7, pass bets win. However, if a 7 is rolled before the point is rolled again, they lose.

When to make your Pass Bet

Don’t Pass Bet

This is basically a bet against the shooter. It’s a good idea to think before making this bet in a live casino, as it’s generally considered a form of bad etiquette to hope someone rolling the dice loses. You can only make this bet in the first “come-out” phase of the game. Look for the “off” chip. If you see the chip “on” instead, you will have to wait.

Come Bet

This bet can be placed on rolls that are not out. In other words, these are basically bets made when the point has already been established and either it or the 7 is rolled to start all over again.

When you make a come bet, the next roll becomes your outgoing. The rules for what happens next are the same as with the pass bet. You win or lose under the same set of circumstances.

This bet basically allows you to act between the outgoing rolls. The odds are no different than what you would get for a Pass bet. It is possible to place multiple bets and have them all settled while the pass or don’t pass bets remain in play.

Where to place a come bet

You will see on each side of the table a rectangle with the word “Come”. This is where that bet is placed.

When to make a come bet

You can only make this bet outside the exit phase. You will see a white “on” chip near where the pass or no pass point for bets is set. There really is no point in betting on a previous exit as it would essentially be a pass bet and therefore redundant.

Don’t Come Bet

Here’s another bet where you’ll be calling yourself against the shooter. However, since this bet probably won’t involve as many people at the table, you probably won’t be looked at as badly at the casino than if you made a Don’t Pass bet. If you’re playing online, again, there’s nothing to worry about.

The Don’t Come bet is like the equivalent of the don’t pass bet, and does the opposite of the come bet. You’ll bet on a no-go bet and hope the shooter losses.

In other words, if you make a “don’t come” bet, you’ll be hoping that the first roll after betting is a 2,3 or 12, not a 7 or 11. Also, you’ll be hoping that once the point settles in within that round, the shooter rolls a 7 before the new point.

When to make a don’t come bet

Like the reverse come bet, you must wait until the non-exit roll. Like the come bet, however, the come-out roll bet can actually affect your don’t come bet.

Odd Bets

Many people choose these bets, often called free odds, as evidence that this is a worthwhile game for bettors. The reason is that odd bets are rare, and with them you have just as much chance of winning as the house. In other words, your rate of return on these bets in the long run is about 100%.

The catch is that this bet can only be in addition to an already made one, such as pass or don’t pass. Basically, this way you add more money to your initial bet. As a result, you can increase your winnings even more if your initial bet was correct of course. It is good to know that the odd bet will have a payout based on which number is established as the point.

Taking or Laying the Odd Bet

If you bet on the shooter succeeding with an odd bet, this is known as a ‘taking the odd’ bet. The goal with this bet is to hit the number before a 7 is rolled. If that happens, you win.

Place to Lose Bet

This bet is reversed to the place bet. You pick one of the numbers we mentioned above, hope that the 7 appears before the number you pick.

With this bet, your odds are better than with regular place bets. As a result, the returns from them are not that high.

Hardway bets can only be made after the “out” roll. In other words, if your bet is not yet settled and an exit roll occurs, your bet will be inactive until a point is set.

The field bet is good for beginners because it is extremely easy to understand. You simply bet on what number will come up on a single roll of the dice. Everything else that happens in the game is irrelevant.

One-Roll Bet
